“Sobótkowy Odlot” (Midsummer Flight)
Midsummer's Eve, also known as Sobótka, was a time of fire, herbs, divination, and revelry. On the shortest night of the year, bonfires were lit, over which people would jump for health, prosperity, and purification. It was believed that on this night, the boundary between the human world and the magical world became thinner, and nature revealed its secrets.
“Sobótkowy Odlot” is an illustration inspired by ancient tales of witches, herbalists, and women endowed with special knowledge of plants, fire, and the rhythms of nature. Three figures float above the midsummer bonfire in the moonlight, evoking ancient beliefs, freedom, and the wild energy of a summer night.
This illustration was created out of a fascination with Polish folklore, feminine power, and the atmosphere of Midsummer's Eve - one of the most extraordinary celebrations of the ancient ritual year.
The illustration was created by Natalia Noszczyńska and is part of a collection inspired by Slavic mythology, folklore, and ancient traditions.
