"Mokosh"
Mokosh was one of the most important figures in Slavic beliefs. The protector of the earth, fertility, women, and weaving and spinning activities, she symbolized the forces of nature responsible for growth, fertility, and abundance.
In the illustration, Mokosh is surrounded by gifts of the earth – grains, plants, and fruits symbolizing the completed harvest. Her figure refers to ancient representations of Mother Earth, upon whom the well-being of the entire community depended.
The illustration is also inspired by the tradition of Dożynki (harvest festival) – a celebration of gratitude for the harvested crops and a successfully concluded harvest season. For centuries, in many regions of Poland, harvest wreaths were made from grains, flowers, and fruits, thanking for the abundance of the earth and the hope for another good year.
The illustration was created by Natalia Noszczyńska and is part of a collection inspired by Slavic mythology, folklore, and ancient traditions.
