"Dance of Fire"
On the shortest night of the year, large bonfires were lit, around which people danced, sang, and celebrated the fullness of summer. Fire was a symbol of purification, life, and the strength of nature, and its flames were meant to protect against misfortune and bring prosperity.
"Dance of Fire" is inspired by the atmosphere of Kupala Night – an ancient celebration of fire, water, and summer abundance. Around a burning bonfire, people adorned with wreaths and girded with mugwort, a plant used for centuries in protective rituals, dance. A female figure emerges from the flames, embodying fire and the wild energy of summer. Her hair transforms into tongues of fire, and her body seems to arise from light itself.
This illustration depicts an element that simultaneously enchants and commands respect. It captures a moment when music, dance, nature, and fire become one.
The illustration was created by Natalia Noszczyńska and is part of a collection inspired by Slavic mythology, folklore, and ancient traditions.
